Every year we attend The Campsie Show near Torrance. This is a large show, so we take two or three lathes and demonstrate woodturning to the public. We get a lot of interest about how items are made, which woods we use and have a display of finished items. We even manage to sell a few pieces.
The club organised Mick Hanbury to come along to the club for two days which is always well attended. The first day Mick demonstrated turning techniques, and the second day we were in the workshop, where we practiced our turning skills.
Andrew Hall is a professional woodturner who specialise in making wooden hats. We arranged to have Andrew at the club, to show us the process in making the hats. Surprisingly, all the members who attended successfully completed their hats. This was a very interesting day, as we had to make the sides of the hats very thin.
